San Francisco

First thing we did was go to the Beach! Then we went to Muir Woods. It was very crowded no parking. we didn't stay long. I had been there. We will see Redwoods along the northern coast. We had used up lot of time- so we ate our backpack picnic lunch in the car on the way into San Francisco. Since our campground was north of San Francisco, we drove down Rte 1 along very steep and windy roads. Beautiful- but really a bit scary at times. Good thing we didn't have the camper!

Stintson Beach not far from our campground

We took Rte 1 down the coast. It got higher and steeper as we went

These flowers were all along the side of the road.

A Sunday isn't the best day to go to Muir Woods. It has SO many people there- the most we have seen for our whole trip. And there wasn't much parking! Still love it there.

Rte 1 continued to be steep and full of switchbacks and curves.

Golden Gate! fun seeing Sausalito from this side too.

We got on the hop-on hop-off red bus for a tour. We saw the downtown, North Beach, Union Square, Chinatown, City Hall, the skinny steep hills, the houses, the Financial District, the Civic Center and the tenderloin area. The only stop we got off on was Pier 39. We walked to see the Sea Lions on the Pier, saw street performers and stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe for a beer. Luckily we have both loved this city before; it was Norm's mom's favorite city.  She went to Mills College here.   We knew we didn't have much time, so we tried to make the best of it.  A lot of walking but really fun. a nice sunny 65 day.
