Are We There Yet

When we thought about the trip we were going to take, we originally considered getting a roof carrier for the Subaru Forrester we have.  The more we looked at the issues of having the dogs and all the stuff we wanted to do, it made more sense to us to get a camper trailer.  We started doing that back in November and finally got the one we have in early March.  The route we're taking has been discussed and revised several times but the plan is to see as many National Parks as we can and also visit with relatives and friends all across the country.  The map that we took to AAA to get the Trip-Tic is shown on this page.  The different colored pins were originally set up to represent different priorities of "must see" and "it would be nice if we could go here" but it evolved into more stop-overs than we had pins for.

Getting Ready to Go

We are packing our camper now, training Angus not to bolt out of the door, and getting excited!  Most of the ground is still covered in ice and snow.  We will be heading for the Southwest soon enough.
We had the camper checked and prepared by Diamond RV in Hatfield.  They put on new tires, re-sealed all of the roof and repaired anything that was not working.  They checked all of the plumbing and appliances and then they re-winterized because we are still way early in the season.
We plan to leave in two weeks.  Tomorrow I get my truck over to Worthington Garage to have Tim check it all out and inspect it for the long trip.  He'll change the oil and replace the brake switch for the trailer brakes.  The new brake control unit was installed at Diamond RV but they found that the truck's brake switch was intermittent (very common in the model year).
When we leave on Easter Sunday, it will be to go to our first overnight at Blaine and Tim Kaercher's in Clifton Park, New York.  Tim is Norm's "best bud" and Blaine is Natalie's cousin.  We probably won't play any golf but we'll enjoy a fabulous Easter Dinner and get to meet their new granddaughter.  Their son Rob and his wife Katie had a new baby a few weeks ago and we haven't seen her yet.
